Cardinal News – Kevin Kolb Winning Hearts & Minds Of Cardinals Fans

In Arizona Cardinal news, after only two weeks of the regular season, new starting quarterback Kevin Kolb has done a good job at winning hearts and minds of many Cardinal fans. His style of play has certainly added to the recent sell out of Cardinals tickets. What fan wouldn’t be thrilled about the trade that brought Kolb their way, from the Philadelphia Eagles. The general consensus was that the team had to give up too much to get him.

After all, his 4 year NFL career consisted of backing up Eagle starting QBs, Donavon McNab and Michael Vick. The Arizona Cardinals traded him for their outstanding, tried and tested cornerback, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, as well as a second round draft pick next year.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was so popular among the rabid Cardinal fans that even without the loss of next year’s draft pick, they would not have liked the trade. Kolb has performed well, providing four big pass plays in two games that went for more than forty yards each. In all of the 2010 season, the Cards only had one play in that category.

Nobody is thrilled with the 1-1 record, but the fans are not blaming Kolb for the loss. With a passer rating over 110, including a completed percentage higher than 60 and a 4 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio, fans are feeling good about getting into the playoffs by winning their division, outright.

In other Arizona Cardinal news, seven year veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald already has 10 catches and a 73 yard TD scamper in just two games. He’s on pace for one of the best seasons of his career. The same can be said about running back, Beanie Wells, albeit in his second season.

He’s rushing for almost 6 years a carry and close to 100 yards at a game, so far. The important Arizona Cardinal news to remember is that while they finished in last place in their division race last year, they were just two victories away from being tied for first.

The Arizona Cardinals’ 2011 NFL Schedule

The Arizona Cardinals try to rebound from a 5-11 record in 2010 that left them in last place in the NFC West Division.  One thing that should work in the Cardinals’ favor in 2011 – the strength of schedule of their opponents.  The combined winning percentage of the Cardinals’ 2011 opponents is just .441 (113-143), so with some solid play, the Cardinals should be a solid bet to improve upon that 5-11 mark from 2010 and make the postseason in 2011. People have already anticipated that this would happen and purchased their Cardinals seats for the upcoming games.

The Arizona Cardinals begin the 2011 NFL schedule at home against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 11.  The Panthers finished just 2-14 in 2010, and it’s expected that rookie QB Cam Newton out of Auburn will get the majority of playing time under center, so one would expect that the Cardinals should have a solid chance of winning this game and starting the 2011 season at 1-0.

The Cardinals’ second game should be a little tougher, as they travel to FedEx Field to take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday, September 18.  The Redskins finished 6-10 in 2010, so they are also looking to rebound in 2011.

The Cardinals’ first matchup with an NFC West rival occurs on Sunday, September 25 when they travel to Seattle to battle the reigning NFC West Champion Seattle Seahawks.  The Seahawks finished just 7-9 in 2010, but it was good enough to win the NFC West in 2010, and the Seahawks surprised many by upsetting the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2010 NFL Playoffs, so this matchup between the Cardinals and Seahawks should be an important test to determine how much the Cardinals have improved in 2011.

The Arizona Cardinals finally return home to take on the New York Giants on Sunday, October 2.  The Giants finished 10-6 in 2010, just one win shy of a postseason berth, so this should be another tough game for the Cardinals, but it is just one of four games on the 2011 schedule with a team that finished above .500 in 2010.

The Cardinals head out on the road again on Sunday, October 9, this time to Minnesota to take on the Vikings.  The Vikings finished the 2010 season at 6-10, but in 2011, QB Brett Favre will not lead them at all, as Favre finally decided to retire for good on January 17.  Despite this being a road game, one would think that the Cardinals should have a decent chance to win this one, since the Vikings are in a bit of a transitional period after the retirement of Favre.  The Cardinals then go on their bye week.

When the Arizona Cardinals return to action on Sunday, October 23, it will begin what will likely be the most difficult portion of their schedule.  First, they have a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who finished 12-4 in 2010 and lost in the Super Bowl to the Green Bay Packers. This is one of the more highly anticipated matches and Cardinals tickets are expected to sell out fast. So, buy your Cardinals tickets now! After finishing with the Steelers, the Cardinals head out on the road to Baltimore on Sunday, October 30 to take on the Ravens, who also finished 2010 at 12-4 and made the postseason.  If the Cardinals can win at least one of these games, it would likely provide a significant boost to their playoff chances in 2011.

After this tough two-game stretch, things get easier for the Cardinals, as they return home on Sunday, November 6 to take on NFC West archrival St. Louis Rams, who finished 2010 at 7-9, one win shy of a postseason berth.  On Sunday, November 13, the Arizona Cardinals play their final game against a team with a winning record from 2010, as they head to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who finished 10-6 in 2010 and made the postseason.

The Arizona Cardinals’ next two games are against NFC West rivals on the road.  On Sunday, November 20, they head to San Francisco to take on the 49ers at Candlestick Park.  It will be the first meeting of the season between the Cardinals and 49ers, who finished 6-10 in 2010.  After this matchup, the Cardinals then head to St. Louis on Sunday, November 27 to take on the Rams in the second and final regular-season matchup between these two NFC West rivals.

The Arizona Cardinals come home to University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, December 4 to take on the Dallas Cowboys, who finished the 2010 season at 6-10.  The Cardinals will then host the 49ers on Sunday, December 11 for their second and final regular-season match up. These two games will be one of the highlights of the season and Cardinals tickets are expected to sell out fast.  The Cardinals will then play a third straight home game on Sunday, December 18 against the Cleveland Browns, who also finished the 2010 season at 5-11.  If the Cardinals can win at least two of these games, if not all three, their postseason chances for 2011 should be vastly improved.

The Arizona Cardinals head out for their final road game of the 2011 season on Saturday, December 24, as they travel to Paul Brown Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bengals, who finished the 2010 season at 4-12.  The Cardinals will then return home to University of Phoenix Stadium for their regular season finale, a second date with NFC West archrival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, January 1, 2012.

As mentioned earlier, the Arizona Cardinals’ strength of schedule really favors them, as they have one of the weakest schedules in the NFL in 2011.  In addition, the high-win mark in the NFC West Division in 2010 was just 7 wins.  If the Cardinals can play at a consistent level throughout the season, one would think that the Arizona Cardinals should have a pretty solid chance of winning the NFC West and returning to the postseason in 2011.

Cardinals Have a Lot to Prove this NFL Season

The 2011 season is finally upon us. The next time the team takes the field will be for real and we all are excited to see if the off season moves will finally pay off. The Acquisition of Kevin Kolb is either going to be a brilliant move or a big mistake. I for one feel that it will be looked back on as a great move and put the Cardinals back into the playoffs for the next few years and possibly give them a chance to get back to the Super Bowl. Now, I don’t necessarily think this will happen immediately, but will in the very near future. It does take some time to gel as a team and with the fact that the trade to get Kevin was put on hold for a few months because of the lockout, will hurt the Cardinals as much if not more than any other team. The one position that the lockout effects the most is Quarterback and the teams that didn’t have a veteran in place during the off season.

Cardinals fans feel a sense of excitement going in to this first game with the Carolina Panthers and actually know that they have a chance to compete in every game they play this season, which is something they didn’t have last year. With the resigning of Larry Fitzgerald, the new quarterback, and some defensive upgrades, especially their first round draft pick, the team brings a high power offense and tough defense to the table. Lets hope the team can stay away from injuries and have a little luck on their side this year. If things work out, the Arizona Cardinals will be back in the playoffs this year with a bright future in front of them.
